PRESS RELEASE: Immediate FROM: Florida Humanities Council
Nominations Sought For Lifetime Literary Achievement
Gov. Charlie Crist in March 2010 will present the first Florida Lifetime Literary Achievement Award to honor a living, nationally and internationally known Florida author. The annual award will recognize a distinguished body of work that has had major influence on the lives and thinking of Florida residents.
January 4, 2010 is the deadline for nominations, which may be made by publishers, agents, book sellers, or colleagues knowledgeable about the author’s accomplishments and influence. The author’s work can be academic, fiction, or nonfiction – or any combination of the three. Self-nominations will not be accepted. The honoree must be a writer living in Florida; residency will be determined by Florida driver’s license, voter address, and/or IRS filing.
“This award will honor authors who have dedicated their lives to telling Florida’s stories and inspiring readers throughout our world,” Crist said. “Florida’s beautiful landscape and diverse cultural influences create a rich environment that has inspired a wide variety of writers.”
The Florida Humanities Council will oversee the nomination process and convene a panel of judges who will recommend the award winner to the Governor. For details and a nomination form, visit the FHC website, www.flahum.org.

As a survivor of Central Florida subdivision living, in Sarasota, my reading of this was like a wake-up call. Anyone who lives in track housing, with kids or not, owes it to their intellectual curiousity to visit with this one. The teen in the house read it also & shared it with her pals.
I would like to see Mr. Bloor & Mr. Hiaasen on a panel together; two brilliant writers in Florida with different styles, mining the same territory.

"What you have created is astonishing! Really, to me it's as though the first archaeologist had discovered the Egyptian tombs and tried to decipher the hieroglyphs. Your research is groundbreaking and the book is...awesome! Sharon Spence Lieb
"It's interesting to me that the National Geographic has not jumped all over "Peru's Inexplicable Stone Forest" as a place to chronicle. Maybe after looking at Kathy Doore's fabulous book,"Markawasi", they will! In the late 90's and in 2001, I was lucky enough to venture to Peru. It was fun for me to see pictures (p.161) of the "spheres of light" that I also encountered at the Urubamba River. The author has caught the magic of Peru and put it in book form. If you are hoping to visit Peru, then this book will give you plenty of ideas of where to go. OR if you've been and want to relive the incredible mystical land/people, this will take you there. The sharp color photos and accompanying excellent drawings clearly show the figures in the stones. I found the drawings quite helpful. "Markawasi" is a perfect gift for any Peru travellers' coffee table. It's a gem!" Lynn V Gundy
"I just purchased and read with awe and wonder, your extraordinary book "Markawasi". What a beautiful book! With absolutely breath taking pictures, well-written narratives and insightful personal stories, you captured the magical, mystical experience on two dimensional paper. The book sings! Well done." John Pfister

In this beautifully-illustrated, photo guidebook by author Kathy Doore, readers will be carried on a journey of self-discovery through one of the most mystical and breathtaking places on earth - the Markawasi Stone Forest. First discovered in Peru in 1952, and soaring 12,000 feet above the Pacific coast on the western-most ridge of the Peruvian Andes, Markawasi was virtually unknown to the English-speaking world a decade ago.
In this first-ever definitive work on Peru’s “stone forest”, readers will come to understand Markawasi’s pivotal role as a repository of ancient knowledge, and learn how a simple change in one’s perspective can open an entirely new chapter in the way human history is perceived. More than a traditional travel guide, Markawasi is a powerful handbook, facilitating the spiritual traveler intent upon achieving an intimate and transformational experience.
Contributing their thoughts on the enigma of Markawasi are a group of notable experts, including Boston University professor of geology and geophysics, Robert M. Schoch (best known for his re-dating of the Great Sphinx of Egypt), Machu Picchu archaeologist, Marino Sanchez, and Lima artist, Javier Ruzo, who comments on his grandfathers legacy. Journalist, Lisa Rome, contributes an historical retrospective, while Peter E. Schneider and Sean Adair provide stunning photography. A collection of personal memoirs, illuminating the deeper mysteries surrounding the enigma of Markawasi are prominently featured.
Describing her own personal journey of discovery, author Doore weaves the cultural, historical, and often magical lore associated with the ancient Peruvian mesa into an incredible tapestry of dazzling images, illustrations, and walking maps. In addition to over 400 illustrations, maps, and photos, are travel tips, a camping guide, and advice on high-altitude travel.

Hi Joyce, You can use layout zones to arrange content on your page. Change your layout to two zones. I tried but you probably will need to resize the video and move your picture back up to the top. I did not want to accidentally erase your content.
