Brett Halliday (1904 - 1977) is most famous for creating the character, Mike Shayne, a private detective from Miami, Florida. After numerous rejections, the first Mike Shayne novel, Divided on Death, was published in 1939. Halliday continued to write the series until 1958 with the publication of Murder and the Wanton Bride (although several ghost writers continued the series). The popular character was also used in several radio programs and a short-lived television series.
