James Leo Herlihy (1927 - 1993) was a playwright as well as an author. He is best known for writing Midnight Cowboy, which was later adapted into an Academy Award winning movie. Like many authors, he was drawn to the laid-back atmosphere of Key West and lived there for some time. He died in 1993 from a drug overdose in Los Angeles, California.
