Maia Appleby has always loved to read stories that take her to a new place where the characters have different, interesting ways of thinking. She also loves to write them. Maia lives in Florida with her daughter, a Dog named Dobby (after the Harry Potter character — R.I.P., dear friend) and a bird named Raina. They have a butterfly garden that is so full of passiflora vines that they are pretty sure fairies live in it. Of course, there is also a garden gnome. His name is Ranzwick.
