Susan Carol McCarthy was born and raised in central Florida where her parents were independent citrus growers. McCarthy graduated from the University of South Florida with a BA in English Literature. She spent her early career writing advertising for Walt Disney World. McCarthy's writing career moved on to novels, both of which are set in Florida and have been very well received. Her debut novel, Lay That Trumpet In Our Hands, has been widely adopted by schools across the country and selected by libraries and universities for their One Book-One Community or Freshman Year Read programs.
